Issue 22 - Day 5

Ephesians 1

Ephesians 1:11-14
11)  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
12)  That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13)  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14)  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

What are you here for? What is your purpose? It is easy in today’s consumer driven society to confuse accomplishment and purpose. We are led to believe that if we do not achieve that qualification, that promotion and so on, if we do not get that house, that job, that family, then we have failed in our purpose. Seeing the Queen celebrating sixty years on the throne recently threw up some interesting discussion. Some said she has worked hard, and continues to do so. Others said, what is so hard about attending sixty years of posh dinners and waving lots! The Queen is not to be measured by her workload, but by her purpose, and the purpose of the Queen is to represent the nation and to be its focus for the people, to be the embodiment of England. In this she has definitely fulfilled her purpose.

What is your purpose? It has been determined since before the world began that anyone who is “in Christ”, that is a believer in him, has one purpose. That we should be to the praise of his glory. We are to praise him, and bring praise to his name. We are to recognise his glory, and demonstrate his glory. Are you fulfilling that purpose? Whether in worship, witness or daily living your life for him, all things should be done to his glory. Fulfill your primary purpose.
