Issue 15 - Day 2

2 Thessalonians 2

2 Thessalonians 2:15-17
15)  Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
16)  Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
17)  Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

How do you get motivated to do a particular task? Often motivation is a big problem. You know you have to get that homework/report/project done, yet somehow you just can’t get started. Too many distractions are too distracting. Even worse when you don’t want to do the job in the first place, yet it has to get done. When it comes to the things of God our human instinct is to do something else every time. How many times have you decided to get up early to read the bible and pray, then oversleep? How many times do you open the bible last thing at night to read, and drop off after half a verse? This is not because we cannot stay awake, but because there is one who does not want us praying, or reading God’s word.

If we are to be established, that is well founded and unmoveable, in every good work and word that God would have us do, then motivation to action is key. That motivation then comes from two sources. Firstly from the Lord himself. He has given us his spirit, and encourages us directly. Knowing all he has done for us, how he has loved us, and the hope of eternity we have as a result is a huge motivation to give back to him in return.

The second motivator is habit. We have already heard from God’s word what to do. We have in many cases been doing his will already, so continue. Use the fact you read the word every day last week to encourage you to read today.
