Issue 15 - Day 5

1 Corinthians 2

1 Corinthians 2:11-13
11)  For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12)  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13)  Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

One of the greatest problems men face is understanding women. We guys just just can’t do it. In order to understand someone you need to be thinking in the same way as them already. You get the same problem across cultures. What people do in another country just makes no sense to us, unless we go and life there and become part of the culture. Paul teaches that it is more than that, there is a spiritual element as well.

Even so with God. If you do not have the Spirit of God in you, then the things of God will not make sense. Also, by his Spirit, God is transforming our minds into his likeness. So as we grow in him, our understanding of spiritual things also grows for we are beginning to think like Christ. Likewise, when speaking of the things of God, there is no point using the wisdom of man. We have to compare spiritual with spiritual. While it is good to relate the things of God to your life, otherwise it is not possible to apply it, those that teach solely by the examples of man end up not teaching the wisdom of God either.

Pray for your brothers in Christ that they may grow in God’s wisdom, having their minds transformed into his likeness. Pray for your unbelieving friends that they would gain the Spirit of God and come to know him, and pray for yourself that as you read his word the Spirit would give understanding.
