Issue 15 - Day 6

1 Corinthians 3

1 Corinthians 3:1-3
1)  And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
2)  I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
3)  For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

The problem we face continually in our spiritual walk is that we judge what to teach, or study based on how long someone has been coming to church, what they have studied before, and so on. The result is similar to force feeding newborn babies with steak. The real deciding point as to what someone is capable of learning from God is how they walk. If they continue to live as if they were not saved then they are not ready for the deeper things of Christ and still need milk. At the same time we do not want people to remain spiritual babies all their lives.

New believers need the basics of Christ taught to them. However they then need to implement these basics in their lives before they can handle more meaty teaching. This is the core of discipleship. Taking someone under your wing so that they can learn how to put these things into practice. At every step on their, and our, walk with God we must be implementing what we are learning, or there is no point in learning anything more complex. Just as a baby must first learn to walk before they can learn to drive a car!

In what areas of your life are you full of learning which you have not yet put into practice? It is not a case of, “Lord, show me where I need to change”, but “You already know how you should walk”. So now go and walk as you have been taught.
