Colossians 3
Colossians 3:1-31) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3) For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
We continue with the subject of our walk. In times past, and in fact sadly in many cases even now, we walked in the ways of evil. Maybe you feel safe in never having indulged in fornication (sex outside of marriage), or inordinate affection (sex with the same sex), or maybe you have, I don’t know. However, what about covetousness (wanting what others have), anger, filthy communication out of your mouth. This is all part of your old man, your old nature. We should not be continuing to walk in our old ways.
Paul reminds us to seek those things which are above, and to set our affection on things above. The only difference between us as believers, and those already in heaven is that we are still dragging about our sinful flesh. Our focus should be on Christ and the things of God. Yes we still live in this world but our walk must be with God. Anyone who gets married and spends all his, or her time back home with their parents instead of with their spouse is not going to have much of a marriage. In the same way, when we come to know the Lord it is a marriage, the church is the bride of Christ. What kind of relationship is this if we do not spend time with him?
How does this practically change your life? What are you doing that is not of God? it is time to set it aside. How much time do you spend with God, and how much time with the things of the world? Change your focus to look to God and his ways. Spend time in his word, and spend time in prayer. Like any relationship, the more time you put into it the more it will grow.
