Issue 2 - Day 6

2 Thessalonians 2

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

  1. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
  2. Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

You may well be going on with God, firm in the conviction of what is to come. You may well be doing and speaking the words of God. However, are you established in these works? We often kick over tradition as an old practice that holds us back, but the truth is that we need to build tradition in our lives. Being established means to be set on an unstoppable path, dedicated to the task no matter what.

The Royal Mint is the UK’s oldest company. Established in 886, and wholly owned by the UK treasury, it still produces all the money used in the UK and in a number of other countries around the world. We would all be surprised if they suddenly stopped producing coins and instead went into the production of screws and nails. They are very firmly established in what they are doing. On the other hand, I saw a van recently that proudly announced that this plumbing company had been established three years ago. Not what I would call established at all. More of a recent start-up really.

Christ calls us to be established in the words and works he gives us to do. We need to be so firmly stuck into those things that nothing will change our path. Equally all would be surprised if we did. Ask God to build his strength and foundations in you today.
