Issue 3 - Day 3

1 Corinthians 3

1 Corinthians 3:2-3

  1. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
  2. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

This is one of the easiest passages to ignore, because everyone thinks they are grown up and meat eating carnivores. Even in physical terms kids think they should be treated like teenagers, and teenagers like adults. Sadly many adults are really just big kids, both physically and spiritually. The measure of whether we eat milk or meat is not how deep the bible studies we do, but how we life our lives. Are you arguing with your brothers or sisters all the time, do you live the same way as your non-christian friends? If you do not live as a follower of Christ every day then you are still a baby drinking milk.

Recently a mother was put in prison for killing her own child by force feeding her. Although less than six months, and not physically capable of digesting anything other than milk, this mother put a funnel down the child's throat and poured in pureed meat and vegetables. We rightly see this as grotesque, and ask how anyone could do this, however we are guilty of doing the same thing spiritually to ourselves. We force feed ourselves spiritual meat without digesting it.

Ideally we should read the Word of God, understand that passage, make a change to our lives to implement what God is saying, and continue to grow. Lord help me understand your Word, and show me how to change my life as a result.
