Issue 4 - Day 3

1 Corinthians 10

1 Corinthians 10:12-13

  1. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
  2. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The two most common statements regarding temptation. "I have dealt with that problem in my life, and it will never catch me again.", "It’s not my fault, I couldn't help it." Eve used that second excuse in the garden of Eden. It didn't work then, and it doesn't work now. Which do you believe more, that you can't help but give in to the temptation, or that God is faithful, and has promised a way out?

A recent survey ranked the top five areas of greatest spiritual challenge in this order: Materialism, Pride, Self-centeredness, Laziness, Anger. Survey respondents noted temptations were stronger when they had neglected their time with God (81 percent) and when they were physically tired (57 percent). Resisting temptation was accomplished by prayer (84 percent), avoiding compromising situations (76 percent), Bible study (66 percent), and being accountable to someone (52 percent). Non-believers can avoid the situations, and be accountable, but they cannot turn to God's word, or prayer. Personally I think Bible study should come higher on the list as it inspires prayer, and by using your time profitably helps avoid problem situations.

If you are struggling today, ask God to show you the way out of the situation that he has already provided. As it says in his word, trust in him and he will direct your paths.
