Issue 8 - Day 2

Romans 8

Romans 8:38-39

  1. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
  2. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

One of the great passages of Romans, and one of the most miss-quoted. What is the context? Paul has just been explaining three things. It is the Spirit (God) that sets us free from the bondage of sin, by that same Spirit we are adopted as children of God, and the Spirit again that helps us through physical and spiritual attack. With all this in place, nothing can separate us from the love of God. Normally, sin could separate us, but it has been dealt with. Normally, physical and spiritual attack could separate us, but the Spirit deals with those. And as we are now children of God, the love of a father knows no bounds.

Regardless of anything that is going on in our lives it is the Holy Spirit that keeps the lifeline, the lines of communication to God open at all times. Anyone having come to God and received his Spirit in us has full access at any time to that direct line to God.

The evangelist Billy Graham was once caught speeding, he had just been charged in court, having pleaded guilty, when the judge recognized the famous minister. "You have violated the law," he said. "The fine must be paid--but I am going to pay it for you." He took a ten dollar bill from his own wallet, attached it to the ticket, and then took Graham out and bought him a steak dinner! "That," said Billy Graham, "is how God treats repentant sinners!"

No matter what, having come to him, it is impossible to escape the love of God. Now return that love by following him with all you have.
