Issue 9 - Day 5

Colossians 2

Colossians 2:6-7
6)  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7)  Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Our current series on Sunday mornings is "Walking with God", and is from Colossians. So it should come as no surprise, as we hit the second chapter of Colossians that the focus is still on walking with God. To many Christians concentrate on finding answers in God, or getting experiences of God. God is seen subconsciously as the counselor to go to for help, and the doctor to go to for healing, or even the one to worship on Sundays. He is far more. Worship should be a way of life, and walking with God, in his ways will change your life.

Two trees got talking one day (I know I am really stretching the analogy here), one looking healthy and full of fruit, the other spindly, with dried up leaves. The second tree was moaning about how bad life is, and the first was praising the farmer. How can you keep praising the farmer, said the second tree. He never waters us, or even comes near me! That it because you are trying to grow on top of that pile of rocks there. But I like the view! You should have come down here in the soft soil. There is always plenty of water, and the farmer can easily give me fertiliser and so on to help me grow. My roots go deep where yours cannot.

When we put our roots down in the word, walking in God, we will be thankful in all things because there is much to give thanks for. If we insist on going our own way we will have little to thank God for, and no strength or fruit. Stop blaming God for your problems and start walking in his ways, then you will start praising him for his provision.
