Issue 3 - Day 7

1 Corinthians 7

1 Corinthians 7:32-33

  1. But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
  2. But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

Does God wish me to marry, or stay single? I am in a relationship, does God want me to continue in it or separate? Who can I date, if I am single? These are serious questions for people throughout history because relationships take up so much of our time. the better question is, how will this relationship, be it marriage, dating, or even friendship, affect my relationship with God?

God created marriage, and so it is a good thing for us to marry. He also likes it when people chose to remain single as they can dedicate their time and resource to him instead. If anyone married, however, does not try to please their spouse then this to is wrong. In fact, if you are single then you best fulfil the will of God by looking to the things of God as priority number one. If you are married you best fulfil the will of God by loving your spouse as it describes in Ephesians 5, and marriage is a powerful picture of the relationship between Christ and the church.

Seek first the will of God, and to please him whether you be married or single, and in every relationship ask how it affects your relationship with God. If God is not number one in your life then, why not? He called you by name, so now follow him with all your heart.
